PATENT ISSUES TO THE SULLIVAN GROUP ON COMPUTERIZED RISK MANAGEMENT MODULE FOR MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL / May 1, 2007

The Sullivan Group (“TSG”), a leading provider of patient safety, risk management, and performance improvement solutions for healthcare professionals, today announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 7,197,492 entitled Computerized Risk Management Module for Medical Diagnosis.

“We are very excited that the United States Patent Office has recognized the revolutionary nature of the incorporation of this medical intelligence into computerized medical charting systems for improving patient safety and reducing the risk of erroneous, missed or delayed diagnosis and/or treatment by a healthcare professional by granting the patent to TSG,” said Dr. Daniel Sullivan, President and CEO of TSG and the inventor of the ‘492 patent. The patented system combines the experience and extensive research of Dr. Sullivan based on his study of medical errors, patient adverse outcomes, malpractice litigation, evidence-based medicine, and best practices as they relate to specific situations of increased risk -- with a computer based tool that provides the healthcare professional with an opportunity to avoid such common mistakes at the point of care.

The patented system of the ‘492 patent communicates with a healthcare professional while preparing a medical record and serves to reduce risk and increase patient safety by, for example:

  • Prompting the healthcare professional to record specific information relevant to increased risks of missed diagnoses or erroneous treatment based on a collection of medical information relating to such increased risk situations;

  • Providing relevant medical care information to the healthcare professional so as to reduce the risk of a missed diagnosis or erroneous treatment;

  • Interactively prompting the healthcare professional to take action or record information so as to provide an opportunity to avoid misdiagnosis or erroneous treatment of the patient and adequately record the action taken; and,

  • Alerting the healthcare professional to consider certain medical conditions based on the increased risk situation that may not have otherwise been considered.

“Our system has universal application to all healthcare providers and their hospitals that are interested in increasing the quality of patient care and reducing the risk of medical errors, adverse patient outcomes, and related malpractice litigation,” said Dr. Sullivan. Additional U.S. and foreign patents are pending.
